In collaboration with Akita, IOTA has launched iampass, a new identity and access management system based on unique palm-vein structure on an individual. AKITA is a start-up based in Singapore and focused on Distributed Ledger Technologies [DLTs]. Their mission is to make DLT tangible. They are well connected to the European community as well as the market. Their role is to make DLT more concrete and have therefore already built several PoCs based on IOTA. (e.g. SmartWatch Pulse Sensor data, Weather Sensor Data)
iampass – The How and What
The process flow of biometric data to the Tangle is managed by the PASS software and integrated palmvein scanner hardware. There is no need for passwords or ID cards anymore. You are your own pass. This hybrid solution is the future of global identity and access management as illustrated by the image below.
On their blog post, IOTA said “We are NOT creating a new app, plastic card, password or any other gadget. Instead, we are enabling you to become your own pass, by simply using your hand, so you can truly say: I am pass!”
IOTA – One of its kind
IOTA is an innovative new distributed ledger technology to function as the backbone of the Internet of Things. It is based on a directed acyclic graph (DAG) aka the Tangle, not a Blockchain. It is as of yet the only technology of its kind that is able to function as the lightweight distributed ledger with scalability, quantum resistance and decentralization for a plethora of use-cases in the Internet of Things, the machine economy, or human applications.
PASS is also exploring dedicated data streams by using MAM (Masked Authentificated Messaging), offline transactions (Flash Channels) and is looking forward to Smart Contracts on the same ecosystem.
